I know that this is technically cheating and choosing two quotes instead of one, but I felt like these best captured Damon and Elena this season and how, in a season where Elena has been literally and metaphorically dead, Damon represents feeling alive to her. He first notices says Elena is alive, even days after her suicide attempt, and they dance, kiss and sleep together to celebrate that life. And then, much later, after the sire bond and Elena shutting off and regaining her humanity, she feels the same way. She’s not sorry that she’s in love with him and that being with him makes her feel alive.
Damon makes her happy, he makes her angry, he makes her question her life and her choices. According to Elena, you should love the person who makes you glad that you’re alive, and right now, Damon makes Elena feel most alive.
